Mowbray School opened in 1981 in purpose built
accommodation. The school caters for approximately 150 pupils
with special educational needs, aged 2 to 16 years on a day
basis. It serves a wide rural catchment area that includes
the market towns of Bedale, Northallerton, Thirsk, Leyburn,
Hawes, Stokesley, Great Ayton, Richmond, Ripon and Easingwold.
Within this catchment area there are a number of military
establishments, the largest of these being Catterick Garrison.
The school has provision for pupils with a wide
range of learning difficulties including autism, speech and
language difficulties, moderate learning difficulties and
emotional behavioural difficulties. The school has the services
of speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists,
school nurse and three educational psychologists.
